Progress... Sweet, sweet progress...

Words cannot describe my excitement. Seriously. The tiles are all now laid. In another day or two the grouting can begin and then the cabinets can go in. Happy, happy sigh.

Here are Steve, his employee Chris, and Grace putting in the concrete backer board on Thursday night.

Here are Grace and Steve right before he laid the first tile.

Here's Steve in his Gorton's Fish Stick guy costume. Snort! Poor guy. He was using his dad's (crappy) wet saw to cut the tile and his sleeves and front of his shirt were getting soaked. No big deal normally, but it was really cold today and his sleeves kept freezing. So he put on his rain gear and had at it. LMAO!

Here's the floor, done except for grouting it. The empty space in the center is where the stovetop on our island will go. Oh, and the grout is a charcoal gray that matches the tile, so the lines won't look white like they do in these pictures.

Wow that looks great!!!

One little tiny question. How did Steve mess that pattern up? It had to be sheer exaustion, right?

I'm sure you are just out of your mind at the thought of possibly having a kitchen again--it's getting so close!

Um, and that would be Mary's way of saying, "Is your husband a freakin' idiot? LMFAO!

Mary, long story short is that it involved a cut along the wall. We had snapped lines and worked it out so that any and ALL cuts to the tile would only be the 12" tiles cut exactly in half throughout the entire room. He did the third row he laid from the wall to the chalk line in the middle of the room. The next row, he went back from the chalk line to the wall. Well when he got to the wall, he realized that in the row before, he had put 2 6" tiles where a 12" tile cut in half should've gone. So he had to pop those two rows out.

Since, at that point, there were only like 4 half rows laid, it was actually pretty easy to have screwed it up. The truth is, if I hadn't been staring at them intently, we probably never would've caught it, and probably no one would've ever noticed since most of the tile will be under the cabinets anyway. LOL!

And thanks everyone! Yes, I'm definitely excited!

It looks fabulous!

Dude I wish I could be there watching him work so I could actually learn how to do cool stuff like that.

I was just giving you a hard time, I figured it had to do with something on the edge and making cuts.

I could single-handley screw that pattern up NOT with cutting, I'm sure. hehehe

LOL Mary. I was laughing when I read your first comment because I had thought the same thing when it originally happened.

But I, like you, could've screwed it up too. But truth is it really IS an easy pattern. Every other row is identical, so once you get a few rows down, you should be golden just by comparing. But because it was right in the beginning of laying it, he hadn't had that whole "rhythm" establish yet.

WOW, Alien! The paint and tile look awesome! What color did you do your ceiling? I love it!

LOL Carrie. The same exact colors as the walls actually. I couldn't figure out why you were asking until I saw that in that picture, the ceiling looks WAY darker than the walls. LOL! That must just be the lighting/shadows. It matches the walls.

(Which is Behr "Fossil Stone" BTW. I LOVE it because it looks sage green sometimes, and other times, wehre there's a lot of light, it looks more khaki with sage undertones.)
