Some more gems from the Jehovah's Witness...

...book I mentioned in last night's blog entry, "Making Your Family Life Happy".

"The Bible assigns the husband to a position of headship in the marriage arrangement, saying, 'Let wives be in subjection to their husbands...'."

"For a wife to be dearly loved, more is required than mere submission under her husband's headship."

"Above all, don't try to usurp his headship!"

"To be a wife who is dearly loved, you also need to care well for your responsibilities in the home... Are you such a wife?"

"Making it a habit to sleep late, spending excessive amounts of time in idle chatter with the neighbors -- these are not for her. Although illness or unforeseen circumstances may at times cause her to fall behind in her housework, her home will generally be neat and clean. Her husband can be confident that, if friends come to visit, he willl not be embarrassed by the appearance of their home."

"The Bible clearly enumerates practices forbidden to worshipers of Jehovah God: fornication, adultery, homosexuality. Some modern liberals practicing a "new morality" -- actually immorality -- clamor for acceptance of some of these forbidden sexual acts..."

"A wife who is dearly loved does not use sex for bargaining purposes."

"Weeping and nagging are not wise. They are damaging to a marriage. They alienate a husband."

"If a woman does not only her housework, but also worthwhile reading and kind deeds for other people, she will have upbuilding things to share with her mate."

Um, yeah. Right...

[Note: I am in no way trying to "bash" Jehovah Witnesses. The men that come here are wonderfully nice. But this book has got to go. LOL!

This book is quite old. Check the publication date. Thus it seems unfair to take it out of context to the time it was printed. The new, revised book is the "Family happiness book”, try checking out this book.

Anon: I clearly stated that I was NOT making fun of the Jehovah's Witnesses or their religion, but the book itself. I only even mentioned the JW's because that's who happened to HAND me the book yesterday and it IS part of their literature. Like Janet said, they either need to start handing out the newer, updated book, or expect people to make fun of the book they are handing out. :)

JWs are specifically distributing old material this month - I guess they're trying not to be wasteful or something. And after some of the things I've read, I think you've been relatively nice to JWs in this post. I too think the updated version of that book is more reasonable (though I'm sure some would still think it arcane). Anyway, I have a slight bias on this subject, but I think all JW material is Bible-based and they get my respect for their lack of hypocrisy in trying to accept all the Bible's teachings.

The Watchtower Organization is but an odd sect that was created in the United States about 120 or so years ago. They have said a lot of rubbish over the years (as anyone knows who has studied this religion) and they have a lot to hide (that is why they will not accept any literature from you about themselves, yet want you to take their pamphlets and books).
It is hard to take anything to heart that these religious leaders from New York say.

Up close and personal Jehovah's Witnesses can be wolves in sheep's clothing.

Think about this-When the devil comes knocking on your door he may not have the 'dark goth look'.They could be smartly dressed and wielding the Christian Bible.

I have Jehovah's Witnesses family in the usa who practice the Watchtower JW enforced ritual shunning that i have not seen or heard from in 15 years.

The central CORE dogma of the Watchtower is Jesus second coming (invisibly) in 1914 and is a lie.Jehovah's Witnesses are a spin-off of the man made Millerite movement of 1840.

A destructive cult of false teachings, that frequently result in spiritual and psychological abuse, as well as needless deaths (bogus blood transfusion ban).

Yes,you can 'check out anytime you want but you can never leave',because they can and will hold your family hostage.

The world has the Internet now,and there are tens of thousands of pages up from disgruntled ex-Jehovah's Witnesses like myself who have been abused by the Watchtower cult.

Jehovah's Witnesses are often a mouth that prays a hand that kills. The Watchtower is a truly Orwellian world.
